RLUAC Chairman
Jean Powell was born and raised in eastern North Carolina. She got her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jean served as a Vista volunteer in Alaska and worked for a law firm before starting her career as a prosecutor. Jean served eleven years as an Assistant District Attorney in Cumberland and Hoke Counties. In 1988 Jean was elected as North Carolina's first female District Attorney and served Hoke and Scotland Counties for twelve years in that capacity. Since her retirement, she has served as a Hoke County Commissioner for nine years. In addition to serving as Chairperson for RLUAC, Jean currently holds or has held the following offices and positions:
