Regional GIS Data Now Available
Regional GIS Database Maps Now Available to the General Public at www.sandhillsgis.com An extensive GIS (Geographic Information System) database and mapping system was developed for planners in the Fort Bragg region during the preparation of the 2003 and 2008 Joint Land Use Studies (JLUS). However, due to security concerns, the 500+ layers of property information were available only to individuals who requested and were approvd for usernames and passwords. After many months of redesign by staff at the NC Department of Commerce, a more secure and user friendly version of the GIS database has recently been launched. The parcel information is now available to the general public without cost and without need for usernames and passwords. The new database contains parcel information for all land located with in the following eleven counties: Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland It includes such things as the RLUAC (Regional Land Use Advisory Commission) produced Joint Land Use Study recommendations; the Sustainable Sandhills land use suitability layers; and the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources "Green Growth Toolbox" recommendations. To access the GIS data visit the website at www.sandhillsgis.com. Once there, simply click the tab at the top of th page identified as "maps". From there you will be prompted to enter information in the "parcel locater" box. You can either enter an address or the parcel identification number (PIN) for a specific parcel of property. Feel free to use this site as often as you like. And... let others know about it as well.
